Small Firm Practitioners

CPAs who are sole practitioners or are in small firms make up a sizable portion of our membership, and we realize those members have unique needs. Free classified ads in our online newsletter:

ISCPA members get free ads in our online newsletter, The Adjusting Entry, which is read by CPAs throughout Idaho. If you're looking to hire someone, start by placing a free ad in our newsletter. Just email your ad to Gwynne at the ISCPA.

ISCPA Member Resource Network:

If you have a question about specific areas of practice, use our Member Resource Network. Many of your peers in the ISCPA have volunteered to share their expertise in certain areas with other ISCPA members. (If questions involve more than 10-15 minutes of consultation, members must work out between them any issues of payment for services rendered.) There are two ways to access the Member Resource Network. You can download the Resource Network section of the ISCPA handbook, which is compiled in January and July each year. Or, for the most up-to-date resource list in a particular area, call the ISCPA office to have us fax the most current list of ISCPA members who have that area of expertise.

ISCPA Library:

The ISCPA's Boise office has a library of books, videos and newsletters that are available for members' use. You can visit us during office hours (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) to use the library, or call us if you'd like to borrow a specific item in the library. Click here to see a list of everything that's available in our library.

ISCPA Resources web page:

Have you visited the Resources page on our web site? Here you'll find all kinds of information about the ISCPA, the IRS, the State Tax Commission, and more.

Safe Harbor language for financial statements

Did you know that an Idaho licensee or firm that does not issue reports may issue financial statements without reports if the financial statements include certain disclaimer language? These "Plain Paper statements" are not included in the definition of "attest" and do not by themselves trigger the peer review requirement. Click here to read about the safe harbor language for financial statements that is part of the Idaho Accountancy Act.

ISCPA Peer Review Program

The Peer Review section is where you can find information about the ISCPA's Peer Review program, including a list of Frequently Asked Questions about Peer Review, and a Peer Review Process flow chart.

Helpful links for small firms:

We've asked the members of our Small Firms Task Force to recommend web links for this page. We've listed them, along with practitioner comments, below.

If you are an ISCPA member in a small firm and have recommendations for other links to add to this page, please email them to Gwynne. Be sure to specify that they're for the Small Firms web page.

http://www3.state.id.us/idstat/TOC/idstTOC.html:

Comments: Idaho Statutes--Titles 1 through 73 will be listed in blue down the left-hand column. Click on Title of Idaho Code you wish to research; Chapter Numbers will then appear down the left-hand column, with titles of each chapter listed to the right. Then go to whatever Chapter you are researching, and the detailed number of each chapter paragraph is listed. Go to the specific topic you're researching; then you can go to that specific citation and print out excerpts from the Idaho Code.

Comments: This site has many articles and other resources on legal topics. They have a whole area devoted to business law, including sections on starting a business, business operations, etc. I have recently used it for information on LLCs.
